Hi everyone,

I'm thinking of buying a new ultrabook for next year, and was wondering what we thought about the dell XPS 13" vs the 15" (9350 vs 9550). I'd be considering items such as cost, performance, battery life .

Thanks!

I suppose it depends on which CPU is in the Dell XPS 15. All of the CPUs in the Dell XPS 13 are rated at up to 15w of power. However, the Dell XPS 15 can be either 35w for the Core i3-6100H or 45w for the Core i5 / i7 versions.

The Dell XPS 15 has more powerful CPUs because they have quad core CPUs with the exception of the Core i3-6100H which is a dual core CPUThey also have the slightly more powerful integrated Intel HD 530 graphics core rather than the Intel HD 520 compared to what is in the Dell XPS 13. The Core i5 / i7 models also has a dedicate nVidia GTX 960m GPU.

Given the fact that both XPS 13 and XPS 15 have the same battery capacity of 56WHr, the XPS 13 will have better battery life than the XPS 15 laptops. However, if you purchase the $1,700 Dell XPS 15 with the 512GB SSD drive, it comes with a 84WHr battery. The physically smaller size of the SSD drive compared to a hard drive means that some of the space that the hard drive would have taken up is now used for a larger capacity battery.
