For people who complain about shipping and use Amazon. I would recommend to pick up thier Prime membership. 2-day free shipping on everything and $3.95 for overnight shipping. You can now start purchase a few groceries at a great deal (Diapers, Wipes, Snacks, etc.) and subscribe to them for an even better deal. I pretty much buy everything from Amazon. ;p

Oh, and I forgot, the way the tax system works right now, consumers are supposed to pay any unpaid sales tax within the year. Sure, people don't do it, but that's the rule. So if they really want to do something, they should enforce the rule already on the books. And while we're on the topic of taxes, if I, as well as many other Americans, still have to still pay federal income tax, even on a small amount of income, when multi-billion dollar companies like GE end up paying $0 in taxes on $5.1 billion in profits (they actually got a rebate as well), then I think Mr. Durbin needs to focus on the corporations first before he starts attacking consumers. Just my two cents...

Might as well make an additional shipping tax as well, call it - Just because we can - Tax or JBWC tax. While were at it, add a breathing tax on air as well. What a joke. How much more do they need from us? Well you, As in Americans. Being in Canada they gouge for certain items as well. But this dis-pleases me. I have no idea how you guys are getting out of a multi-trillion dept.

FACTS:

Taxes for ALL Americans are the LOWEST they have EVER been. Obama tried to ELIMINATE the cuts for the rich, while extending the cuts for the rest of us.

TOO BAD the Republicans couldn't have it that way. They made sure the rich got their tax cut, then they turned around and SLASHED programs for the middleclass.

Sure, this Durbin idea is atrocious, but if you've been keeping up with the news, you know which party REALLY stands for ALL of us, and not just the most wealthy among us.

Stop watching Faux News.

[citation][nom]sieggs1[/nom]"Ahh yes. The Democratic Socialist never met a tax they didn't like."[/citation]

There are Republican Socialists (Progressives) as well. Kick them all out.

Ronald Reagan said: “The government’s view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.”

I don't know what the big deal is, each state currently manages their local sales tax laws individually, if Illinois wants to force all online retailers to collect sales tax they can put the law on the books in Illinois and enforce it with the online retailers.

The federal government should not be invovled in local state sales tax laws. In fact, the article is kinda off, last I checked on the big day in April my MA sales taxes are not handled by the IRS they are hanled by my state tax submission. The IRS is only federal taxes.

If they do decide to enforce state sales tax via online purchases ... I can just start drving to NH again with cash in my pokect to make my large purchases.

1) I am just curious what you consider rich, i'm middle class and paid more taxes this year than I did last year.

2) Those rich guys are the ones starting business and giving us poor/middle class guys jobs, you cut their tax breaks and they look at the bottom line and slash jobs. If you think this is from watching faux news its not, its just simple economics. If I was running a business, and my bottom line decreased and I am responsible to share holders, I need to cut expenses. The #1 expense for any business is employees .. first place that gets cut. So when the government cuts tax breaks for big business, they don't really care, at the end of the day they just cut their expenses (people) and keep their bottom line where it needs to be. They still laugh their way to the bank and the little guy is out of a job.

Not everything in the world is black / white.

Between Social Security, Medicare, Federal income, State income, Federal corporate (who pays for that? - we consumers do), state corporate (again, we pay), Local sales tax, State sales tax, gasoline, telephone (hard line and wireless), etc, etc, you think we are UNDER-taxed?

I've always loved this line from an old song: "Tax the Rich. Feed the Poor. Till there are no... Rich no more." As soon as you tax the rich out of existence, who exactly will be your employer? Oh, the guberment... Great plan. Paging John Galt

I'm ok with taxes because I like having roads, ambulances, law enforcement and education for everybody.

Ayn-Randtards and Tea-tards can whine all they want, those same taxes are saving them from being killed by anyone they annoy.

[citation][nom]hoofhearted[/nom]This is crap. If they really want to implement a fair tax, the implement a flat tax on income. Everyone pays 10%. Doesn't get much simpler than that. That needs to be be done before brick and mortars have any credibility in the "fair" complaint.[/citation]

They can do this once they close all the tax loopholes and end subsidies for oil companies, nuclear power, corn and weapons manufacturers. Which is not going to happen so no flat tax.

Someone is finally trying to make a tax that is actually fair.
HATE taxes, but that is how I buy police protection and road repair.
Flat tax and sales tax so everyone pays exactly the same taxes. No more free rides for anybody on the back of everybody else.

There's a big difference between "Pay, for services rendered to you..." and either of "Pay, for services rendered to some joker who means squat to you" or simply "Pay up, or else!" No rational individual (i.e. those who agree with Ayn Rand's philosophy) would disagree with the first scenario; it is the other two which represent gross violations of people's rights to the fruits of their labors.
