The i3 is superior in most everything except gaming performance where the 6480G has a bit of an edge over the HD3000. If you wanted to be more specific in the uses of the laptop we could give you a more specific answer.

Thanks for your quick response. I'm looking for a computer for college work. I would like to stream movies and TV on it, too. I will not be doing any gaming. Also, as far as reliability of brands, what do you think of Gateway. I've always bought HP, but found a deal with Gateway.

Yes i3 are better. Asus makes pretty good laptops. And some acer models are good. If HP has served you well I would go with that. But they are usually known to be very crappy melt and die. And gateway I'm not to sure

Both have adequate graphics capability for HD movie playback.
For fast action games, the amd is probably beter.

I might suggest you look at Lenovo.
