Digital Audio Recorder W/ Low Visibility, Wearable Lavalier Mic

I am looking to record my daily speech from the moment I wake until the moment I sleep.

As such, I need a digital recording device that has good battery life, preferably rechargeable... Also, I will be using a speech to text program to create text logs of these my speech, so the quality has to be somewhat decent. A few mistakes are not a big deal.

I am looking to spend no more than $80 on the recording device and a lavalier microphone. I know some devices come with lav microphones... Does the quality of the mic on the recording device matter if I'm hooking up a quality microphone to it?

My recommendation is to verify legal implications of recording other people without their consent. Especially if this is commercial in any way.

My recommendation is to verify legal implications of recording other people without their consent. Especially if this is commercial in any way.

I fully intend to inform others of the microphone and the project. The goal is to gather data on my own vocabulary and repetition in my own speech patterns.

I don't want the mic to record anything further than 10 inches away (area around my face). It will be clearly displayed on the collar of my shirt. I would just prefer it to be somewhat discrete so that the data (words) that I gather will accurately reflect my natural speech patterns.

This is not commercial. I do appreciate your mentioning that, though. Believe it or not, I had not considered the legal issues that could come up.

So another thing I should mention is, the mic needs to be visible but preferably not obtrusive.
