Digital Mixer Inserts What the heck?

Does anybody know of a digital mixer that will allow the usage of
insert points during mixdown. I have an 02r and the mixer only allows
the usage of the inserts during recording (while using the analog
inputs) I'm sure this is to save money on a/d-d/a converters.
Basically someone like myself with a lot of outboard gear is up the
creek when it comes to mixdown time.
It almost appears as if the old Tascam DM-8000 could do this very
thing, in some places I've read it sounds like on all 16 mic ins, in
other places I've read it sounds like there's only room for 4 (which
is better than none, but not enough)
Does the sony DMX-R100 have such things or anybody else?

The Panasonic DA7 did, and the Mackie dxb does, but you have to make
them. Same with the Sony DMX-R100. You need to look at the Routing
page and scratch your head for a while. I'll bet the Yamaha
DM1000/2000 can do it too, but I don't know for sure.

The DM-8000 had four "floating" inserts which were D/A and A/D
converters going out to a set of jacks. They could be assigned in the
digital path of any channel. It was a great idea, but as often as
people have asked how they can insert an analog processor in line with
a digital recorder return, nobody else ever picked up on it, at least
not at the "project level" console. TASCAM never built any of their
other digital consoles with this feature.

Most consoles have inserts, but they're only for analog inputs (which
is the 16 you read about on the DM-8000).

According to the block diagram in the manual, the Tascam DM24 also has
assignable insert points, but it looks like you lose an aux send and
return per insert and there are only 4 each.

I have been studying the manual to verify it will do what and I want
and I just purchased one, so I will be finding out for sure.
