Do you need a cable TV connection to use a HTPC

I am planning on building a HTPC so I don't have to pay 200 dollars a month for cable tv and internet
But my question, if I get a cable card and get the Home run prime. Do I still need a cable tv subscription
Or can I just pay for cable internet and it works the same way with the cable card.
Because if I need a TV subscription for something that is supposed to let me cut the cord, than it's absolutely useless for me to even want to make it.

A tuner in a PC with a cable card still requires a TV subscription. All you are doing is replacing the TV cable box with a PC and tuner card.
Cutting the cord, would be using an over-the-air antenna and internet streaming services like HULU and NetFlix.
