Not sure if it's considered free, but I use Norton Security Suite from Comcast as it's full featured and is included with my Internet.

I used to use Kaspersky, which does a great job of keeping my laptops safe. But now I've realized there's no reason for a antivirus for me as I don't download anything from unknown sites, and that kind of stuff.

I use Norton as well.. subscribe yearly.. never a problem .. when I think I might have a problem it always turns out an update is about to happen.. things tend to get wacky..

Kaspersky.. I have never heard of this virus program.. not like I know them all.. if the program works for you.. fine, online updates is where a lot of programs fail over time. The yearly price is competitive even with Norton.. tho I am not looking to change, or even try something new.

Windows provides out of the box protection. if you click here you will see a graph where those little white dots are windows defender protection. you can change the type of graph you want using the drop down menus. for example, if you see the performance test, you will see that a lot of antivirus are even more lightweight than windows firewall. an example of that is avast, with a really small footprint on your system. again, the white dots are the performance using windows defender.
that company - av comparatives - it's a independent antivirus tester, not related to any corp and I guide myself with those tests.

I use 360 Total security. are you laughing? well, it uses avira and bitdefender engines (alongside with 360's own engines). I could never find any better to be honest. it's free and even cleans my computer. what count's on a antivirus is not the features, is the engine it uses. avira and bitdefender have really good engines, and that is what keeps me using 360 total security.

depending on windows for total protection.. sounds very risky.. I'll run Norton just the same..

well, I use 360 not exclusively because of the engines, I also use it because it show's a pop up EVERY TIME a program is messing with registry keys for example. the engines are just for offline detention. the registry thingy is also useful, for example: when you are installing a software, 360 will make a pop up and warn you that program X is trying to modify registry keys... this is useful when you just downloaded a program that without your concern is trying to install some third party programs (like downloaders do). so, if I want to install any program related to porn, lets say, 360 will pop up and tell me the name and location of the file that is trying to add something to the registry or installing something in background. it's all advantages with 360, it even has really low resource usage, I mean, 60-70MB of ram and almost no CPU use is just great, AV's like kaspersky waste way more RAM and CPU. it also has homepage lockers and all that stuff. I am glad to trade my paid AVG for 360. but this is personal opinion only. and trust me, porn websites are the least of my concerns, I download and see things worst than that, like accessing the deep web... and never got hacked :)

Never say never.. old line.. still holds truth.. I don't condon dark web searches.. anti gov.. will produce flags and attach trackers.. on the web and in real time.. These under the radar searches usually means you're shopping for something.. I myself has turned over a new leaf.. This can lead to paranoia.. with real demons lurking.. like the NSA or FBI taking a pointed interest..

I dont really go to the deep web to "buy" stuff or to do something anti-gov. actually I go there just to test things, like antivirus. I search the web for deep web websites full of malware, and than I go there. once got my machine killed with 5 minutes on a website hahahha. but well, I dont give a damn about my computer to be honest, this one is just for testing programs and virus samples for example, it's not my personal computer :p also, deep web is not exclusevely a kind of internet where all you find is creepy things, guys that sell people and so on, there is a good side of the deep web, like some forums where people that are paranoid with privacy just talk to eachother... actually there is a forum that I used to use there, a forum like this one, the only difference was that there nobody except you could track your things, like IP, locations, etc, was a forum just like a normal one found on google search's, just more private. not all is bad on the deep web. for example, those cracked programs a bunch of users use, well, those cracks are made by a hacker and than posted on the deepweb. some1 just had the trouble to go there and get the file and uploaded it to a "known" website that google can actually find xd.
