Does blackberry communicate google by wifi or phone network

WiFi is free whereas every bit of data that goes through the mobile phone network incurs a charge.
That is why I need to know whether my blackberry bold is communicating with google via the phone network OR through WiFi which is virtually free(unless I exceed 120 Gb per month)
How can I tell which way it is connecting?

If you are connected to wifi, it should be using that for data. You also seem to be under the impression that Google is the web, it's not. Google is a search engine, you probably don't spend any more time on that site outside of looking something up.
