Does my laptop support a 144hz Monitor?

Hey! I have a MSI Gl62 6QD laptop at the moment (Selling soon to swap for a PC)

now, I'm thinking of getting a Acer Predator 144hz Monitor

now I'm just wondering if my laptop will support it?
Yes the specs aren't the best BUT it runs Csgo @ 150FPS or higher normally, and I am only wanting it for csgo really and general things like that. and It'll be fine once I build my new pc.

But doesn't HDMI Only support 60Hz?
Also It has a Mini display port, so I presume a MDP to normal displayport would work?

You are confusing it with an older revision of HDMI. HDMI 1.4b did not support more than 60-75Hz. HDMI 2.0 supports 144 Hz. You will be fine.

That laptop only has a 1.4b not HDMI2, so gotta use the Mini display port :s Thanks anyway

Oh awesome! 120hz is better than nothing till I build a new rig. I've been searching all over for that, thanks a lot

Thought I'd reopen this thread as you know what your doing ;D

Got the monitor, I also using a Mini display port to HDMI and a normal HDMI Cable, neither will allow over 60hz and Intel control panel gives me the "Custom Resolution exceeds the maximum bandwidth capacity"...

Any help please?

Sorted the problem out, but every time I "attempt" to change the resolution to 1920x1080@90fps (Which it allows) my monitor just comes up with "no input detected" help pls :s

Dude, just use a Mini DP to DP cable and it will work.

HDMI 1.4b does not provide 120 Hz in 2D. It provides 60Hz in 3D which is referred as 120 Hz, because 2x 60Hz

for anyone reading this thread in the future, hdmi cables can handle more than 60hz, but tis the connectors on the monitor that won't allow more. and i am using a mini dp to dp cable for a 144 hz monitor attached to my laptop and i cant run more than 60. the problem lies in the fact that you have two screens, and your gpu cant send two refresh rates, even if your laptop screen is off.

This worked for me. Plugged both mini dp+usb into laptop, then dvi -> dvi on monitor

(had to severely underclock the gpu to prevent ridiculous overheating on that thing. Still overheats but not to the point of stuttering)
