Does the "clicker" on the left earbud affect the no sound coming from that side?

For the second time now I've got a pair of earbuds and am getting no sound, and again, only from the left side. The "clicker" along the line going to that bud is not something that I use for anything---but I tend to fiddle with it a lot---just randomly clicking it---sometimes.

Can that be the reason I suddenly get no---or almost imperceptible--sound from the left earbud?

some spec wouldn't hurt, like what is your device you plug them into, and does that go with 3,5mm jack?
as far i know there are two types of the 3,5mm jack
one has 3 fields and the other 4, the one with 4 is a headset (headphones+mic)
headphones do share one field with the mic...idk which one actually

anyway it is possible that your device has it input for the jack busted, to be precise only that one field which is why the rest of teh setup is working

try your earbuds on your mobile, laptop or other devices you got,basicly test both earbuds and your 'device' with other heapdhones or devices

Thank you for your response. I use the earbuds on three different devices: primarily to listen to my iPod, a fifth generation, classic; then on my computer speakers (cheapy Altec Lansing's) and an even more cheapy Coby radio.

Don't know the earbud brands---got them at WalMart, but not inexpensive. Thinking the clicker was some kind of volume control, I clicked it a few times; and when nothing happened I just clicked it absent-mindedly from then on. Then all of a sudden, the sound on the earbud for the left ear went dead. Since that's the line that has the clicker I wondered if my fiddling had a delayed action.

Anyway, I eventually replaced the earbuds. The new ones have worked fine, for several months on all three devices, just as the first set did. Then, again all of a sudden, nothing---and, again, on the left side.

So I can't help thinking there's some connection with that darned clicker which, I've been told now, actually has something to do with advancing the songs one plays? If so, I need to get buds without the clicker it they still make them.

One further piece of information. I still have the original Apple earbuds that came with the iPod. There's no bass to them at all; but I do get sound from both sides on all three devices, so I don't think it a 'jack" problem. Thanks

if the 'clicker' has only one button, then it's to recieve calls when the headset is plugged into some mobile phone, it has or supposed to have a mic integrated,
it does pause/resume play while the music player is in use, and when you hold it it will trigger the google voice search; without a spoecific app it can not change balance or volume...and yes constant unplugging from various devices will kill the jack, which is what i thought would be the case

now since othe rheadphones work fine,those earbuds are broken, regardless of the reason the mobile device can not recon which earbuds are plugged in(excapt sony, i think they got some with multiple buttons), so if one works and the other not, then the case is clear
you just killed one of the connections, either the wire or the jack
