Doubt regarding replacing DVD slot with SSD

Laptop Model: Acer Aspire E5-573G-56RG Notebook

This model does not have the dvd drive, im looking to replace the empty slot with SDD, I have no idea about specifications like, which HDD caddy to buy (9.5mm or other sizes) and connector type.

Lastly, is it easily install-able or not, I heard this laptop is unibody.

If this laptop model doesn't have 2 HDD slots/bays, I don't think that you can add another drive to it. If it has no Optical Drive (DVD-Rom), then you can't connect an HDD/SSD caddy on its place. The way this works is - if you have an Optical Drive, you remove it from the laptop, get an HDD/SSD caddy which fits the slot of the Optical Drive, connect it and put an SSD or an HDD in the caddy.

Well, from what I see in the review, this is an Acer Aspire E5-573G-5785 laptop, which is a different model. On the other hand it should be pretty similar to yours so there might be an additional SATA port. I can't really tell if that there is a SATA port on the picture, but when I've looked at the technical specs of your model, it says "no optical drive". It would be best if you'd contact the laptop's customer support and ask if this is possible, so that you don't end up with an SSD and a caddy which you can't use.

If you go into the Acer forums there are a few parts listed for the E5-573. I do recall seeing a HD caddy in there. Also, Acer calls for a 9mm drive in the secondary bay. However, I wanted to install an optical disk drive in mine and the listed part numbers were not available in the U.S. (Acer will not sell a part if it didn't ship with that part and 9mm drives are few and far between) so I did some careful measuring and discovered that a 9.5mm drive fits just fine. I ordered a bezel, ordered a Panasonic 9.5mm drive, removed the retaining clip from the back of the plastic slot filler already installed in the computer, put it all together and installed the new drive. It slid right in a worked perfectly. So check the forums and don't get hung up with Acer's 9mm drive size.

I can confirm that the Acer Aspire E5-573G-56RG DVD slot can indeed take a caddy and SSD card. I installed the 9.5mm caddy from here http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B010CRVKUO?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00
and and a sata 3 SSD drive - I used this one http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00M8ABEIM?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00.

Process is supper simple.

1) Remove the one screw that locks the DVD drive in. Its located about 5" in from the front of the middle of the DVD bay. Once it is loosened you can pull the blank caddy out. One you do unclip the trim and unscrew the metal piece at the back.

2) Clip the trim on the front of the new caddy. Screw the metal thingy on to the back of the new caddy. Insert the SSD in the caddy and tighten up the screws. Insert caddy holding SSD into the laptop and tighten locking screw.

3) Power on laptop. Boot to windows 10 and use your preferred partition tool to partition your new drive if you want to. Alternatively if you are installing windows then windows will do it automatically.

4) Assuming you want to take full advantage of your SSD drive you will want to either transfer your existing windows install to the new drive or perform a fresh install. I went for the later. The process was very simple. Attach USB DVD. Alter boot order in BIOS and boot from DVD. Select install windows 10 to your new SSD. Windows will partition, format and install windows. Very painless. You will have to manually install the NVIDIA drivers but other than that everything was included in the install.

5) Laptop flys with windows and apps on SSD and ACER bloatware removed. Enjoy.
