editing commercials

I'm planning on getting a Tivo so that I can edit out commercials and
then record to dvd. Am I better off getting a dvd/tivo box or just get
a tivo and network it to my pc ?

I would think the latter, you have more tools and more control on a PC. But
I've never tried it with a standalone DVD recorder myself.
