Solved! Element TVs without remotes

I've read many posts regarding those with element TVs that wont turn without a remote; requiring a replacement from a manufacturer or the like...NOT TRUE.
I had already bought a replacement when out of curiosity I took a recently purchased universal remote from home depot for $10 and conducted a "scan" according to the directions!!! It worked!!
The replacement was almost $30 that I will immediately return now that I've discovered this wonderful trick and thought I'd share.

It's not a trick.
You were fortunate that the remote had the codes for that TV installed. Some or many "universal remotes" might not and you can't add codes. They may not have all the codes so that some functions of the original remote won't be present on the universal remote.
