Emachines netbook opens to black screen

Hello,

Powers on to just a black screen, it's windows XP Home Edition Model No. EM350
Any ideas, suggestions, advice?

Does nothing appear on screen at all, ever? Can you faintly see a screen image if you look at it in the light? What happens if you plug the machine into an external monitor?

Nothing appears on screen, have not plugged into external Monitor but when I adjust the brightness the tones of grey change from light to dark so I'm thinking something is keeping windows from getting started.

Tones of grey suggest a damaged LCD, but you should really hook it up to an external monitor to test if your computer is functioning normally or not.

Mine does the same thing. I connected it to an external monitor and it works fine but nothing from the "inbuilt" monitor. Someone mentioned something about removing the battery and doing something with the power button.

Any suggestions???

I have a similar problem with my emachines laptop. It does work when I hookup the external monitor. However still nothing but an extremely faint display on the built-in monitor. How do I need to fix it?

You need a new inverter or maybe a new backlight. This old tread is closing but you can start a new one if you need more help.
