Hi everyone. I have a hp envy 17 j111tx. I have had problems with it shutting down randomly, when I am using it. After awhile I found out that if I put any force on the bottom of the case, where the cpu fan is it dies, Sometimes it just cut's out entirely, and other times the lights start back up, and I can hear the fan running. However the display still stays dead.

Recently it cut out, and then when I booted it back up the touch pad would not work. USB mice still worked fine. Just while writing this the tough pad has randomly started working again.

Any advise on what could be playing up? Midterms are soon so I need a reliable computer.

Aright, I found what the problem was. One of the wires for the cpu fan add been pinched when it was put together. It had pushed though the insulator and was shorting to ground. I put some shrink-wrap over it and repositioned the cables so that it did not pinch. Now everything is working fine again.
