error with reset

I am helping an elderly lady with her iPad which has been disabled because she entered the wrong password 6 times. I went through the process of connecting to iTunes only, after half an hour, to get an error message saying "The iPad could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (3194)". We want to get back to factory settings so we can start again, is there any other way of doing this?

You are going to have to go into an Apple store to get help with this. There is no way (in spite of the many urban legends and scams on the 'Net) to get around this without the login/account information.
