Establishing Media Center

Alright so here is my breakdown, I have a 10TB windows home server, it connects to my HTPC via ethernet, I have yet to install an OS on my HTPC, I was wanting to have a program that I could customly go through and catalog all of my movies with brief descriptions, title covers etc, I dont mind doing it all manually. I use iTunes for my media collection on my laptop/external HDD(in Iraq), I was wondering if there is a free/low cost solution to setup a cataloging of my movies (approx 4 TB of movies) on my server, and view/use it through the house (will have 3 HTPC boxes, 3 PC's, 2 Laptops possibly) Also I know it is possible to stream movies via wifi, do you get the same perf as wired? or does it depend on quality of movies, I have quite a few MKV's that I have from my ripped blu-ray Movies, as well as an additional 250 DVDs that are not yet ripped.
