Hello the other day I accidentally got infected by a virus that changed certain file extensions to .LOSERS files. Certain mp3, wave, jpg, mp4 etc. files all have the extension .losers after their original extension, and are not accessible. I backed up all the files to an external hard drive and did a clean install of windows. Now my files are backed up to an external hard drive but still have the .LOSERS file extension, and are still non accessible. Can anyone help my files go back to normal please?

Ransomware.
Unless there is a published decryption for that specific one, you are Out Of Luck.

First Google search I did on ".losers extension" found results for a ransomware. Did you get any messages saying your files were encrypted and how to pay to unlock?

If you were able to stop the virus before it fully encrypted everything then you might be able to restore previous versions of those files. You can test this by choosing one of the files on your computer (not the external drive) and right clicking on it, then looking to see if you have a "restore previous versions" and then see if there are any in there.

You can also try system restore but a lot of these ransomeware viruses delete all your restore points.

If you don't have previous versions nor system restore points and you also don't have backups from prior to this happening then you might not be able to get anything back.

You can also try data recovery software. There are lots of them out there and most allow you to run them and see what can be recovered before you pay. I like GetDataBack Simple and iCard Data Recovery. If it finds your correct files then you can choose to pay to get them back. GetDataBack costs under $100, not sure about iCare.

There does not appear to be a decrypter for that. Yet.
