I got the sad face blue screen and cannot get my computer to work through anything but an Ubuntu USB.

I am trying to get a factory reset for my Toshiba Satellite S855-S5378 but when I enter the Boot Menu via F12 it does not give me the option of HDD Recovery.

I used a Windows 8 CD but it is not allowing me to update, repair, re-install, etc. because of the partitions that the HDD came with.

Pressing 0 while turning on does nothing.

Pressing F8 while turning on does nothing.

Pressing Shift while turning on does nothing.

F2 takes me to the same menu as F12

Found a solution on my own.
Using a Windows 8 CD, I got into Command Prompt
Typed:

  • diskpart.exe
    list disk
    select disk "n"
    clear
    convert mbr
This cleared the partitions that were not allowing me to install Windows and changed their format to something I could use the CD to install the OS.
