Factory restore issue

Trying to backup and restore Dell inspiron 11 laptop with Windows 8.1. Laptop crashed and wont load Windows. Managed to start the backup factory restore. At the rate it is completing the back up and restore it will take days?? Please advise best course of action? Percentage completion is exactly 40 minutes for 1% is this normal??

Why did it "crash"? Possibly bad hard drive?

Not sure what happened the laptop just started stuttering and running sluggish. So I shut it down then when I went to reboot it loaded straight into Dells system repair screen.

If the hard drive is failing, restore isn't going to help you do anything. It's like topping off the gas tank because your car's transmission failed.

HD is failing.

If feel like it, open it up and replug the HD cable(s) in the hope for a loose connection. After that, u maybe looking for a new HD.
