Fair use laws and the Hypocrisy

I own Home Alone 1 and 2 on DVD.
My family loves those movies during Christmas.
What I find ridiculous is that they show them on TV and I can copy them with VCR/DVD recorder and
it is fully legal (as long as for private use)
YET if I rip my personally owned copy protected DVDs of the same movie I am violating a law..
If i let my neighbor borrow my factory copy of Home Alone to watch that is ok but if I rip it and let him
borrow a burned copy that is not.
Also I suscribe to NetFlix and like to stream capture the movies on there with TuneBite and
I dont know if THAT is legal or not.
Yet of course I can record anything I want off of cable.
Seriously what is wrong with our countries policies?
I understand if you are DLing torrents and selling copies in bulk on the street you should be
busted but if I bought the movie I should be able to make personal backups.
I can backup my music CD collection with no problem (at least I think I can!) so
what is up with the idiots in Washington DC.
Isnt there more important issues to worry about or is the Hollywood lobbyists that important?

I have a 9 year old daughter that I spend alot of money on Disney movies on
and of course they get scratched and broken so if I have backed up
ripped copies that makes me a criminal?
Really they should be changing over to a flash memory format for media nowadays.
No more optical drives just a usb port to put in your flash media.
Yea I should have made it a discussion thread instead of a question thread.
I guess the question is violating a law that doesnt make logical sense unethical?
It seems like the US fathers of the constitution were doing just that.

I just saw alot of threads here on this forum about
people looking to backup personal copies.
It justs seem silly to me how the laws are setup.
I respect that the movie studios want to protect
their investments but the politicians got to
get their heads out of their butts and make laws
that make sense.

I totally agree, it's tough when we as moderators have to enforce something we don't necessarily agree with but the rules require it, I personally wish they'd get on the same page because whether we can or cannot, people are going to do what they need to, period!
