Tom's failed to quote this part of the original article:

"His comments weren't directed at specific legislation but came as Congress considers two competing measures designed to buttress the networks for critical U.S. infrastructure, such as electrical-power plants and nuclear reactors."

FBI director wants to nationalize the internet. Who's surprised?

What would it take to make piece with the hackers? What are the main reasons hackers do what they do? Surely only tiny percent of hackers do it for fun.

Not winning the war against hackers, not winning the war against drugs, not winning the war against terrorism, not not winning the war against the bad economy....

epic fail! US.

Just keep wasting public money away until the elastic comes back slapping you in the face!!!

I recently read an interesting book, The Alexandria Project, that is a fictional account of hackers infiltrating government networks on behalf of a foreign government.

One problem with computer security is the common belief that security is a product that you buy to make your computer safe. Computers are not toasters and safe usage requires more knowledge on the part of the user.

One concern with any government-sponsored security solution is that gives them (and their political supporters) more power over you.

The only computer safe against hackers is one that is disconnected from the internet....

And even then, that still leaves the "human" element as a security risk.

They are not winning because they are looking to bring about another way to propose SOPA/PIPA. It would probably not not be exactly that, but it would be some way to bring about control of internet or gain access to more of our information "freely."

If governments and companies would stop trying to keep secrets there wouldn't be an issue with hackers getting access to them. There is no reason companies and hackers can't or shouldn't be more transparent with the public. If it needs to be kept secret it doesn't need to be networked.

even though studies show its retards cancer, cant kill you no matter how intoxicated you get, and over 50% of the people want it legalised, and we have millions of people in prision for pot offenses and that costs between 20-50 grand a year per person to keep them locked up.

i can get why its not as easy as its now legal come get it, much of the pot comes from mexico and below and holy crap are those cartels insane. but at the same time the government pays for people to grow food that isnt popular and will be thrown away, and hemp is a very good material to use in damn near everything... people think burlap when they think hemp, but it can be made in to clothing of any quality, is a more renewable soruce of paper than trees and so forth.

Duh, its a statistics problem, the US government cannot employ enough people to monitor and protect the total infrastructure in the country from the number of people around the entire world that could/would want to attack via electronic means.

"We've been playing defense for a long time. ...You can only build a fence so high, and what we've found is that the offense outpaces the defense, and the offense is better than the defense,'' he said.

Nope, that's the Mexican border - something a lot of people would rather not talk about, apparently, despite the border agent's own documents basically saying the vast majority of this border isn't even 'secure'.

That which should be protected and maintained, is being destroyed, and neither Obama nor his cronies has any desire to do something about it that is effective, and representative of the needs of the American people. On the contrary.. his administration talks of open borders, and North American Unions, and one big happy smiling multi-cultural uptopia (piss-pot). These globalists won't even audit their own Federal Reserve, but if you read enough into stories like this.. you can practically see the writing on the wall in terms of the next fall guy for something big, something major and most importantly, something to be used as a lawful pretext for tyranny.
