My FIFA 16 lags horribly

It never did this before. A few weeks ago. It worked quite well. Currently when I am playing a match it just starts lagging for no reason.

All my drivers are uptodate and Windows updated itself 2 weeks ago. Come to think of it I didn't have this problem before the last Windows 10 update.

Other games don't lag: MGSV, RE7.

I have no other resource intensive applications/ services running when playing my games.

I am honestly at a loss as to why this problem is occurring.

My Laptop:
Lenovo Y50
Windows 10
i5-4210H
8gb ram
Nvidia GTX 960m 2gb

Would someone be kind enough to assist me in solving my FIFA 16 sufferings?

Do you see a difference in CPU Usage compared to your screenshots? I would consider 20% CPU Usage while a computer is idle to be ridiculous. On a dual core CPU, this will kill gaming performance. Perhaps not all games but any game that needs more than one core of the CPU is going to lag.

Open up the Task Manager, click on the Details tab, click on the CPU column to organize the tasks running on your computer from highest CPU usage to Lowest CPU Usage. Find out what is running in the background and stop it.

A Core i5-4210H is designed to run at 3400 MHz to 3500 MHz. You have it throttled back to only 2000 MHz. You are...

Download a PC monitering app which monitors your GPU load and your CPU load, like MSI afterburner. If your CPU/GPU is on max load, try putting the graphic settings down. Lag can also be caused when playing online with a bad connection. Sometimes you can't help it (it's the opponent) and sometimes it's your fault. Take a connection test online and make sure that your ping is below 100 (the lower the better).

I do not play on max settings. I have turned the graphics settings down to nil and I still have the same problem. From the task manager, my CPU is not under an inordinate amount of stress. I have even tried throttlestop (underclocked the CPU just a wee bit) just in case, but it was to no avail. This lag happens offline. I do play not online.

Thanks for your response but do you have any other ideas?

Are you sure that FIFA 16 is using your Nvidia GPU? Check in the Nvidia Control Panel. Post a picture of how you have ThrottleStop setup. Some Lenovo laptops deliberately throttle the CPU soon after the Nvidia GPU is active. If you are having problems with throttling, using ThrottleStop to slow down your CPU is not what you want to be doing. Turn on Nvidia GPU monitoring in ThrottleStop and then turn on the Log File feature so you have a record of what speed your CPU is running at and what temperature your GPU is running at while gaming. You can copy and paste log file data to www.pastebin.com

The i5-4210H is only a dual core CPU. Windows 10 can have a lot of background baggage running which can keep one of your cores active which will not leave enough processing power left over for gaming. What C0% does ThrottleStop report when your computer is idle at the desktop? It should be under 1.0%. Post some ThrottleStop pics and some log file data if you want some help.

Without a doubt it uses the NVidia GPU when playing. I have never had this problem with it before. Only recently. All my other games work fine. I have posted the throttlestop settings I use when gaming, and current PC taskmanager info.

Currently not gaming just doing work, if you are wondering about the high memory and CPU usage.

Before I game I close all unnecessary progs, so CPU usage drops to 20s, and Memory to mid 30s %. In general from observing throttlestop, temps reach high 80s, low 90s ( and I also use a cooling pad), while gaming, and I don't suffer from lag. To reiterate this lag only started happening recently.

You are experiencing poor performance so you think cutting your CPU speed in half is going to improve things? Does that make sense? Why is Clock Modulation throttling set to 93.8% when it should be 100.0%? BD PROCHOT should not be checked either. The version of ThrottleStop you are using is almost 4 years old. There is a newer version available at TechPowerUp that lets you adjust your CPU voltage and many other things that TS 6.00 does not let you adjust.

If you grab the latest version, post some screenshots and I can help you set it up but you need to get your C0% that ThrottleStop reports a lot lower first. Here is an example of the latest version and it shows where your C0% should be when idle.

Thanks for your input. I found the problem: my laptop was simply not getting enough air underneath. When I gave it more ventilation, my problems went away.
