find files in apple backup

i do not have any physical backups from itunes. what i do have are some cloud saves on my apple cloud drive. how can i pull these cloud drive's saved files or images to extract data and see what the hell is int here? i am trying to find old pictures from old phones. i do not have the extended storage online so its only 5GB of stuff on there but its full. restoring the phone to find this data is not an ideal situation, what im looking to do is what you can do on an android - pull the image backups and brows them like you would a .gho file.

the files are not on the device, they are on the cloud. how can i download just the backup files that itunes has saved?
