Hi,
My film camera makes it possible to select Infinity so I can take
pictures through a window. My Canon A75 doesn't appear to offer this
facility. Can anyone suggest a workaround, please?
Thanks!

You can manually focus the A75 in just about every photo mode it has
(except maybe for AUTO): Program, Aperture/Shutter Priority and Manual
all offer manual focus.

Just press the Macro/MF button. It cycles between auto focus, Macro and
manual focus, then use the left/right buttons to adjust focus distance.

Thanks for your help. I've only had the camera a few days and the
manual isn't the simplest to follow that I've ever seen (full of extra
notes and an index that could be sharper).

The A75 I've worked with is smart enough to ignore clear glass. It's
an optical auto focus sensor, and so long as you don't have window
frames, reflections or panes confusing it, it'll just ignore the clear
glass. And since it's digital, it's easy enough to review the shot
and zoom in to verify focus after you take it, and repeat as
necessary. Also, if you use prefocus correctly, you should be able to
even fake it through even a rough composition by prefocusing on
something at a distance without tricky reflections or window frames.

I'm not aware of whether the A75 has manual focus override you seek,
but I don't recall stumbling over any such control, however.

Best Regards,

I haven't used the A75, but some other Canon cameras have a
"landscape" mode. It appears as a mountain range icon on the
mode dial. I believe that setting it to that mode sets the focus
to infinity. I'm not sure about that, but you should be able to
check it in the manual and test it.
