I have a feeling, though, that with modern technology improving the medium we might actually see it here to stay. As to the market share it may take, who can say? I'm kind of hoping for some kind of 3D video conferencing tech someday.

Just to be a little more specific as well, you need a minimum of a 120hz screen to display 60fps content twice in which the glasses are used as a shutter to display what is necessary for each eye to display the 3d effect. Plasma or lcd does not matter, although I am curious to see which will remain the value holder

When mass produced this technology will cost $100 extra at most, with the most expensive component is the glasses themselves. When you buy $1000+ 50 inch TV, it is stupid not to pay this $100 to get 3D. The breakthrough is the speed of the LCD TV (plasma always had it) so that the images can be switched very fast, and BR discs that can have HD stereo video on single disk with multiple layers.
It is here to stay.

People with bad eyesight might have a problem. If the focal point is off a few people might suffer headaches, dizziness, and nausea. Wonder if they can develop #D without the glasses.

On another note, how much do extra glasses cost?

Man, and I just bought a $3500 LCD 55" with local diming in fall.... amazing TV, but 3D sounds like fun for the change I specnt

why else would anyone waste money on something where there is little to no content for it
