format new harddrive hp mini

I have a HP Mini that will not boot up and got a new hard drive for it could any one tell me how th format it with windows xp the note book dose not have a dvd drive thanks

Hi

I would borrow a external USB DVD drive

Boot off windows XP cd
It hard disk controller & drive is detected the XP setup will offer tp partition the drive then format
Then start windows install
If hard disk not detected may be bios setting for hard disk controller
If in sata ahci mode XP will not have drivers
Select ATA compatibility mode

Alternative if you upgrade to 2GB ram buy & install windows 7
As support for XP ends in a few weeks
