I have Windows 7 64 bit, and my Norton subscription ends soon. What are the best free security packages to get, ie anti virus etc, and should i use windows firewall, or something else?
I am in the UK.

Download & Install the following 3 freewares. It forms a free complete security suite for your system!
1. Avira Anvivir - http://www.free-av.com/en/download/index.html .
Avira is best & light solution for internet security, real time updates, excellent overall system protection.

2. Malwarebytes - http://www.malwarebytes.org/ .
Malwarebytes is one of the best & effective antimalware tool out there.

3. Ccleaner - http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download .
CCleaner is a system optimization, privacy and cleaning tool with an effecient & most useful registry cleaner.

My recommendation for an AV is Avira, as Saran008 mentioned above.

Malwarebytes is a malware scanner. The free version doesn't provide real time protection, but is a very good scanner.

I have used Norton 360 for much of the last 3 years. I have a current subscription, but don't even use it anymore. I use Avira instead, as it seems to have better protection.

I would add Immunet Protect to this list. It is free and has real time detection and protection.

It's pretty cool AV software-- once you download it and become a member, you are a part of the Immunet Community and gain "Collective Immunity", meaning if you register a virus, everyone else within the community is automatically protected from that virus.

Here's a download link / more info: http://www.immunet.com/user/new
