is it possible to accidentally damage speakers or power amplifier by plugging positive wire into negative port or vice versa.
 
If you're talking about reversing the polarity of the speaker wire, no damage will occur but in a stereo pair the sound will be out of phase, giving strangely stretched image.

If in doubt about polarity, put the two speakers opposite each other about a couple of inches apart and if it's reversed (out of phase) bass is greatly reduced due to cancelling effect.
