I think a mental addiction is something you do that causes a chemical response that's addictive in your brain. A physical addiction would be a chemical you add to yourself that you're addicted to. So mental would be gaming, gambling, adrenaline, sex, etc. Physical would be nicotine, THC, Heroine, etc. The tough distinction is things like sugar and fried food. There's probably a calorie/sugar rush involved (chemical), but also an endorphine or adrenal response (physical). I guess those would be both?
