Okay, so here is the deal for the past few years I have been using the TurtleBeach X12 headset. I love it. They are comfortable, and the mic monitor feature TurtleBeach uses is amazing for me, because I like being able to hear myself when I talk so I don't end up yelling. The downside though is The X12's are not the most durable and I have cut through many pairs relatively quickly. I am wondering if anyone has any recommendation for a good gaming headset that is durable, affordable (under say $200 USD) and has a mic monitoring feature of some sort.

Its true what duck74uk said about how the X12's are unique with that, but if your a Windows user you can follow these steps to hear yourself with any headset/mic:

Control Panel>Hardware and Sound>Sound>click on the "Recording" tab>click on the mic of your choice>click "Properties>Listen tab>and finally check the box "listen to this device" and your ready to go. Now all you need is a headset, but I'd recommend getting some good headphones and a modmic instead.

Some very good headsets in your range:

Sennheiser G4ME ONE - http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-G4ME-ONE-Gaming-Headset/dp/B00GWU8FTK/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1423100642&sr=1-1&keywords=sennheiser

The X12 is rather unique in letting you hear your own voice. I'd say use a X12 where both speakers are fine, and buy a separate microphone. That is what I did, I use a blue snowball for my microphone, but if I want to hear my voice, I can still flick the X12's on, if the pink wire is not in only I can hear myself.
