Gap in Dell's notebook range?

Gday All,

As a world traveller, I find that the optimal size for a gaming notebook for me is 15.4". Many of the notebooks targeted for gaming are 17". I know there is plenty of 15.4" gaming notebooks (IE: g1, a few MSI notebooks) but I'm surprised that Dell doesnt seem to have anything really meaty in that range as they always like to have their fingers in all pies. Their best Inspiron comes with an x1400 (128Mb Video Memory + 128 shared). I have seen other 15.4 notebooks with much better cards. I'm hoping to email Dell and show them this thread. Does anybody agree or disagree that they have a gap in the 15.4" gaming notebook range?

Thats true, but a lot of people I know personally do use Dell's for gaming. They have a good Price/performance ratio and the fact that they are international makes them a good pick for travellers (we dont have to ship it back to Aus or America to get it repaired). I know there is a stigma regarding Dell, but I think thats a bit elitist and they do have a lot to offer. Thanks for your input though. I appreciate it. Who else agrees that not many people use a dell for gaming?

I don't trust Dell period. As far as gaming notebooks lacking in the 15.4" range, I believe that is because higher end cards need more cooling than will fit in a 15.4" chassis.

Cool thanks for your input. Perhaps less people use Dells than I thought. I would agree with you to a certain extent regarding heat issues in a 15.4 chassis, but I have still seen some pretty tricked out 15.4 laptops (The Asus G1 or an Aurora/Area 51 with a 7600 or even the 14.1" 512Mb 7700 A8JS), so I still believe that better cards are possible in a 15.4" chassis than what Dell have.
That said though, it seems as though nobody here likes Dell anyway, so I guess I'm on my own!

I don't mind Dell only because I have never had a problem with them. My family uses 2 Dell Dimensions, 2 Inspirons and we have owned two TV's a 26 inch lcd which broke and was swiftly and effortlessly replaced by Dell with a 32'' model free of charge.

I think that Dell could try harder with the 15 inch range of notebooks. At the very least add one to the XPS line-up. doubt it will happen, but one can hope.

( the reason we own so many Dell's is because my parents don't trust either my brother or I to build a comp, even though we know more about computers at 17 and 19 years then they will probably ever know. But what are ya going to do?)
