getting mono sound when i hook up my pc speakers to tv

I hooked up my edifier 2.1 speakers to my samsung led tv using the headphone jack. I'm only getting mono sound (only plays from 1 speaker).
What do i need to do to get it to play in stereo?

Two thoughts:

1- Try a different audio cable to connect.

2- Double check that the settings in the TV are for stereo out.
