Go from VCR to Tivo without hacking?

I'd like to be able to take some old VHS tapes I have and put them on
DVD. Using TivoToGo, I can take files on my Tivo, bring them to my
computer, and burn them to DVD. Is it possible for me to use my Tivo
to record from a VCR? Then I can take the Tivo recorded files that
I've recorded from an old VHS and burn them to DVD.

Please don't respond by saying, "Just buy the DVD combo" or "just buy
this" or "just buy that" kind of stuff, TIA. I'm interested in
getting it to work with what I have.

Run the A/V cable output from your VCR, to the A/V inputs on your TiVo.
If you've got a satellite or cable box feeding your TiVo, unplug that first,
of course. If you don't have a CATV or SAT box, you'll have to run through
guided setup again and tell it that you have one, so you can enable the
A/V input. You're basically "spoofing" your TiVo into thinking your VCR
is a catv or sat source.

The just tune to any non-terrestrial broadcast channel, and your TiVo will
switch to the A/V input. The rest is easy.

FWIW, there's no way to do this _with_ hacking.

Only an analog cabling solution can help.

Why not, just make a manual recording on channel 3. (or 4)

How is your TiVo currently configured? RF in? A/V from a cable box?

You can send the output of your VCR to the input of your TiVo, but the exact
steps or changes will depend on your current configuration.

S-Video in, RCA r/l audio from a Satellite box.

Does your VCR have S-Video out? If so, then just move the cables form your
SAT to VCR to do a recording. The TiVo will think it's recording something
else, but in reality (in your current setup) it really can't know for sure
what is coming in on the S-Video,A/V cables.

If you don't have S-Video on your VCR, then you will need to run at least
part of guided setup to switch back and forth.

Or, you can rerun guided setup changing the connection method to A/V only
(from S-video) and leave it that way so you can swap back and forth, but
that will lower the quality of your SAT recordings (some people wouldn't
notice, I don't know if you would or not).

Or rerun guided setup telling it you have SAT and Antenna, hook the ch 3/4
RF as your "Antenna", and deselect all the Antenna channels from "Channels I
receive" to activate the RF in, but force the TiVo to still use the S-Video
for all channels, including your locals (assuming your Satellite setup
re-maps your locals to their actual numbers). Then, set your VCR output to
the channel that has no mapping (3 or 4) and do a manual recording from that
channel when you want to import a VCR recording.

if you can provide or point me to the thread on which it is discussed.
I tried it once before, long ago, when I first got my Tivo (Series 2,
FYI) and only succeeded in getting the "tivo is not getting a signal"
screen.
