Google Crhome [65] 64-bit freezing on Facebook - Windows 10 PC

Hey guys,

I recently started having an issue with my Google chrome browser. I have not see this happen on any other site so far. It just seems to be happening on Facebook. I am not on Facebook much, but I do have a couple of public pages I manage, and this issue seems to happen mostly when I am trying to look at the pages I manage, but it does happen with my news feed at times as well. Specifically when people have posted videos.

I just received a Chrome update prior to posting this thread, so I tried Facebook out to see if the issue was resolved, but it is not.

I am running Windows 10 pro - version 1607 with the latest updates (the latest that has been deferred of course). on my custom built PC. Lots of horse power in it, so I know it's not my computer's inability to process things. Here is my rig via PC Parts Picker:

My current version of Google Chrome is 59.0.3071.86 (Official Build - 64-bit). Now, I believe at one point a few weeks ago, I un-installed and reinstalled Chrome, and the issue continued.

What happens is, I will simply log into Facebook and start poking around on it. I will go to one of the pages I manage, and everything will be okay for a moment, but as soon as I do something like use my mouse wheel to scroll down, the entire tab with Facebook running freezes. Chrome itself continues to work. I can open other tabs and ping pong back and forth between them, but the Facebook tab stops responding. I can hit the refresh button on the Facebook tab, and it doesn't really do anything. Just sits there. I have to close the Facebook tab and re-open it to get back to work, and it sometimes still freezes after doing so.

Microsoft Edge doesn't have this issue. It sometimes lags on Facebook, but it ends up being able to load the pages without freezing. I don't like Edge as much as Chrome, so I would like to not have to use 2 browsers to get things done. I am a big web browser tabber, and I like all my pages to be accessible without having to minimize one browser window to get to another, or to split my screen between the two. I have a nice Ultra Wide monitor for a reason

Does anyone have any suggestions or see this issue themselves?

Very good chance that Event Viewer is logging some error or warning just before or at the time of the screen freezes.

And you can also use Task Manager, Performance Monitor, and Resource Monitor to look for some app, process, or service that is stuck or otherwise consuming most or all of some resource.

Take a look at the Event Viewer logs and see what you can find. Takes some effort to get a sense of the layout and data presented.

Sometimes a log will state no data but in reality it is gathering up entries that may display after some time.

Right-clicking any given entry will provide more information about the entry.

You have picked out a pattern of events. Use that pattern to force the freezes and use the tools to look for a possible culprit.

Okay thanks for the reply. I'll look further into it when I get back to my pc.

I stared having another issue while logged into my Google account at Google's website. I looked up it online, and foud a YouTube video where someone else had the same exact issue. This is what it was doing:

Looking through the comments, one suggestion was to use the control +/- keys on the keyboard to come out. That seemed to fix the issue. Apparently, going above 90% zoom can cause the issue on bigger displays.

Now, my monitor is a curved ultra wide monitor with 3440 x 1440 Resolution and 21:9 aspect ratio. Reading through more of the comments on that YouTube video, there are some people saying that after certain Windows updates, Chrome does certain things like these issues on larger displays.

Using Microsoft Edge, I've had less issues, but it to dies a few weird things at times. The only thing I changed display seeing wise, was I changed the text size in Windows display to 125% so all text in apps, folders, act was bigger, because it's quiet small when left at 100% on this screen. I'm running a MSI 1080 graphics card btw...

Watched your video.

Did the scroll bar blinking correspond with the music? Seemed that way but could not really determine if that was correct because of the short video length and camera movement. Still felt it best to ask...

Would not be surprised if there are some configuration issues with respect to browsers and/or higher resolutions.

Takes time and effort to get the hardware and software all working together beyond just the ideal lab environments used to test and claim features/functions.

Hopefully the respective manufacturer's will provide corrective information or bug fixes to resolve the problem(s).

But keep reading and looking. Someone may figure out a direct fix or work-around. (Do not have the "hardware" here to try things out.)
