Google search looks different and is slow all of a sudden?

Title pretty much says it all. My Google search is suddenly really slow (taking several seconds of a completely blank white page before showing results), and it looks... odd... The Google Image search also looks horrible, and is equally slow. I threw in some screenshots.
I have not installed any new extensions lately, and I'm running Chrome on Windows 10.

I could add that it looks like the page actually actually loads at the right pace, with the title of the page coming up on the tab, and the little loading icon disappearing. It still shows a blank page for a couple seconds though.

Any idea what this could be?

Hosts file is normal. I was looking for some entry that might have been redirecting the webpage.

Unfortunately I am not using Chrome so cannot make any configuration tests and changes.

However, you have probably exhausted most options therein.

Remove Chrome from start up.

Run Task Manager for a few minutes and determine what apps, processes, services etc. are running. Pay attention to the resources being used.

Slide the Task Manager window to one side and then open Chrome. You may find some other background process being launched or otherwise start bogging things down.
I would suspect some change in the personalization settings. Either by accident, corruption, a third party app, or even Windows. Some coding bug or mismatch.

And it is all to easy to brush the CTRL key along with some other key to alter the display and other functions.

However the slowness may suggest a corrupted Chrome installation.

Reinstall Chrome and see if doing so returns appearance and performance back to normal.

I reinstalled Chrome. The blank page is only there for about a second now, but I'm pretty sure it's still slower than it was. The layout of google image search is still weird and still only fills up the left half (quarter maybe, even) of my screen.

edit: it's now back to ~3 seconds. Here is a GIF of how it looks when i search: https://i.imgur.com/9Oldjwt.gifv

Check the default home page in Chrome.

Also check your Hosts File.

Reference (there are other similar links available):

Just look first to determine if there are any entries that do not seem to "fit in".

Feel free to post and ask if unsure.

Home page in Chrome is the new tab page. This is what my hosts file looks like, not much: https://i.imgur.com/atdaqs4.png

I opened task manager and looked for any odd processes, and there was one that for some reason caught my eye. I closed it, and now my Google Search looks like it should. I unfortunately didn't even jot down/remember the name of the process, because I didn't really think it would work, so I don't have the name of it. Thanks.

Update: It was this https://i.imgur.com/ktZFECh.png. InstallShield "ISUSPM.exe".

The process I found was SafeShopping from Avira. I use Avira as my main anti-virus program, but I don't remember installing the Safe Shopping module. When I de-activated it, Chrome was back to normal.
