GPU: Dedicated vs Integrated (difference)

I'm planning on buying a laptop which are:

Asus:
Processor: i7-4510U
GPU: GT840 with 2GB VRAM.
8GB RAM

HP:
Processor: i7-3632QM
GPU: Intel HD Graphics 4000 & RADEON HD 8670M 2GB.
8GB RAM

I'm quite confused if the Asus laptop has also something like Intel HD Graphics saying that it has 2GB VRAM. What does 2GB VRAM mean?

The HP which is second-hand costs around $650.

I'm planning to buy the ASUS brand-new $900. which do you think is the best for gaming, programming and watching 1080p?

The one with the dedicated card,so the ASUS,will be better for anything.

You will definitely need the dedicated GPU if you are going to play games. For the other tasks the built in one should be enough, but not for gaming.

both are bad at gaming but the asus gains the upperhand solely because it'll actually allow you to play demanding games to atleast 720p low~med settings (maybe, fingers crossed). if you only play casually or just play some lightweight games like LoL and dota 2 then both are fine i guess.

They both have dedicated graphics cards.
The Intel HD4000 refers to the integrated graphics that could be used to save power. The first laptop does NOT have this as far as I can tell.

The GT840 2GB is better than the HD 8670M 2GB.
