Hello,
We have an older receiver, and the aux inputs don't work, I have plugged and xm satelitte receiver into the phono input, but it sounds very gravelly. The speakers are new bose 151's. is the amp bad, or is the phono input the problem

Solution
You cannot use the phono input for anything but a turntable. It has a special phono preamp in it that is designed for phono cartridges that require eq and a lot more gain.
Use any other input that works.

If you have inputs for, say, a "DVD Player" and they're not being used, use the aduio RCA ports from that input and switch your receiver to that input and you should hear clear sound. Worst case scenario, you pick up an allllright receiver from Craigslist for $60 :)

Thanks, i thought that was the problem, but have been too busy to research it myself....since posting I bought a new amp and cleaned the switches in the old one, and low and behold, everything works as it should now...so put that one back in the office and have the new one at the pool.
