My HDMI connections:
1.Blue Ray Player to Yamaha receiver via AV1
2.Laptop to Yamaha receiver via AV2
3.HDMI out from receiver (hdmi control disabled) to Panasonic TV (non ARC connection/Viera link off). Laptop sound playback digital audio (hdmi) selected as default.
When I use AV1 I can turn off TV and still get audio of Blue Ray movie from receiver
When I use AV2 and when I turn off TV the audio cuts off from the receiver.
When listening to streaming music (Spotify) I just want the music from the receiver and don't need to watch the tv display.

I can think of two work arounds.
1. Exchange the inputs.
2. Use an HDMI audio extractor to provide a digital audio out that will be associated with a different input than the HDMI input you use when you want video and audio.

Exchanging inputs give the same results. I suspect somehow the laptop is "too smart" - shuts down audio when it detects that that the tv is not needed. Tried all the tweaks in the laopton - audio settings/video settings(extend display etc). So far nothing seems to work
