Hi there guys. I am gamer, who is playing mainly fps games like BF3, Call of Duty and C3 and I need good headphones/headsets to get that 3D sound. So I really need advice on picking good ones. Should I go for headphones or headset? Should I buy sound card (and if I do can you recommend me one)? Are usb sound card Headset any good? 5.1 or 7.1? Will 5.1/7.1 headset/phones be compatible with my on-board sound card (My MB is Gigabyte GA-770TA-UD3, but I will be upgrading to z87 very soon). Please answer my questions. My price range is 100£ and I will be buying them online from UK ebay/amazon. Thanks in advance for your reply.

The Razer Tiamat is an expensive alternative.
To be honest, I have a Steelseries Siberia v2 and I can already clearly hear where all the shits are coming from.
But if you really have so much money to throw, go ahead.
Also, buying a true surround means that you have to get a distinct sound card to hear the "best".
So that's more money spent.

:) if you think $160 is too much then how about headsets for $500-$1000 :)

his budget is 100 euro. if you couple the tiamat with a sound card, it will clearly exceed the budget.

does not matter , the onboard 5.1/7.1 will work untill he save some money and get a sound card. and if his onboard sound is good, he will not need a sound card at all.

Thank you for your fast and detailed answers guys. The Razer Tiamat is indeed good but it goes way over my budget, which is £100 pounds (not euro). I really like the Siberia v2 but is the usb sound chip good, will I get that 3d sound effect? What do you think about the Turtle Beach ear force Z6A? Will I be able to get good sound even without good sound card and instead with my on-board? Feel free to suggest other brands and models as well.

The Siberia v2 indeed has 3D sound. I play FPS games and I'm pretty sure I can hear what's behind me or in front me etc.
The Turtle Beach one is not that good.
For gaming headphones, I usually trust those gaming companies instead of pro headphones company for low-mid range headphones. Just my preference tho. XD

Thanks Midnight, that's +1 for the Siberia. Right now several headsets caught my eye:
-Tritton PC510HDa
-ROCCAT™ Kave
-Coolermaster Storm Sirus
-Logitech G35 (Seller refurbished for 60 pounds- great deal but are refurbished products trustful)
-Corsair Vengeance 1500 Dolby 7.1 Gaming Headset
-Steelseries Siberia v2

Which of these is the best one for my needs (3D surround sound in fps games). And then again should i buy sound card with one of these and if yes then which one?

If you're just gaming, there's no need for a sound card. Unless you really have too much money in hand that is.
I don't know about the comparison between all those headsets, but I would say that the Steelseries or the Corsair one would win my money.

As I told you earlier, that's way over my budget and is not an option. As for the motherboard, I will be getting my new pc later this year, maybe after Ati launches their new gpus. I will have in mind the Gigabyte mobo though.
And about the ATH and Sennheiser headphones, can you please name some models that will get the job done. And then again do I need sound card for such high-end headphones?

I cant help you there :) , never used low end Headphones ..

you will need a sound card only if you plug the headphone directly to the sound outputs of the onboard sound. and only if your mother board has low sound chip.
