Headphones into headset adapter help

So, im attempting to transform my headphones into a gaming headset (these are the headphones: Bose Soundtrue) by using the 'V-MODA BoomPro Gaming/VoIP Headphone with Microphone' . The only problem is that the minijack in my headphones are 2.5mm and the mic is 3.5mm so i went searching and came across this 2.5mm male to 3.5 mm female adapter. This adapter has three ring things meaning L, R and micophone, so in theory this should work right? I need some advice on what im doing, thanks

i'm guessing your headphones have a removable cable right?provided you get the right adapter it should. sounds like you need a male 2.5mm 3pole to female 3.5mm 3pole. the boompro might stick down a bit far and be more fragile with that long adapter on a small 2.5mm jack so may be fragile and snap off if you are too rough with it. i would have likely went with a modmic or a lavalier microphone since they arent a stress point but that is your choice to make.

the adapter you're looking at is 4pole by the looks of it (i would think you would want 3pole or tip-ring-sleeve TRS not TRRS)

thanks for the advice, thats really helped me out but what do the poles mean, whats the difference between 3 and 4?

TRRS vs TRS. as i said tip-ring-sleeve is TRS, TRSS (4pole) has 2 rings or 4 separate parts to the connector not 3.
