Headphones sound distortion

My headphones recently started having a problem where they began messing with the sound produced. if I have the headphone plug not in all the way it sounds normal, and if I turn either the right or left audio off it works as well. Any fixes that make them fully work again (with both right and left audio on)

You seems to suggest there is something wrong with the plug.

is the plug 4 pole or 3 pole? (google 4pole vs 3pole 3.5mm). is your jack 3pole or 4pole? (pc are generally separate 3 pole jacks for headphone/mic, some laptops and all mobiles are combined into a 4pole). if trying to plug 4pole into 3pole you could have said issues.

if you're sure its 3pole to 3pole it could be a broken or worn out jack.
