Right now, I use Steel Series Siberia V2's as my daily edrivers, and also have a pair of Logitech G430's that I don't like and have boxed up on my desk waiting to sell

The modmic 4.0 is only $35 on Massdrop, and I see this as a perfect time to kill my headset for good

My price range I'm looking at is under $300, preferably around $200 or a little over.

I am looking at headphones great for gaming with a decent soundstage, but also I am looking for phones great for Metal as that's all I listen too.

I am eyeing both the DT880's and the DT990's right now, and don't know which to get. Here I can see a graph of their sound curves, and can't decide whether the 990 is too "fun" for me or whether the 880's would be best. I am not a fan of entirely analytical, and want a little bit of fun, but would the 990's bass cover up it's mids or highs?

The DT990's are also only $182 right now, while the 880 is still $250. I am eyeing 250ohm versions of the headphones, so is a DAC amp going to be needed as well, or is my Asus Z97 Pro's Onboard amp going to suffice?

Any cheaper DAC's you'd recommend, I've been eyeing the Fiio E10K's at like $75

I ended up deciding on the DT990's and got a monoprice amp and dac that are capable of 600ohms.
Would my Asus Z97 Pro's onboard amp be enough? I know lots of Asus ROG boards are 300ohm and 600ohm capable, but Asus has no info on mine.

I can't seem to find any info on your mobo for things like output voltage, noise floor, or anything you would to see. The monoprice amp will definitely push the dt990's better, and the DAC should clean up the audio. I'm sure the pairing will be great compared to the steelseries!

Yeah Asus is shady on the info of my board... But thanks for checking
I know the Amp+Dac will sound way better, I'm just trying to cut corners using my Mobo's Audio.
I'm sure it will be just much better to use the external amp, and I have better control over it too.
