Headphones work but no sound from tv

I have a Samsung tv with an audio output jack... 1/8 with a conversion of 1/8 to stereo rca jacks. I only have a single HDMI cable connected between my tv and Onkyo receiver. I have an HDMI feeding the receiver from my cable box and a single HDMI from my Bluray player. No sound is heard from the headphones. Will this analog output from my tv play an DIgital source?

in the tv's setup, do you have the internal speakers setup as the audio playback device?

Yes I currently can use either tv speakers or sound system.
