Help!! Best drum grid pattern sequencer software?????

I'm looking for two things:

1. a good grid pattern software sequencer for creating my own drum
files. so i need to be able to create say 99 max patterns for a song;
then link those patterns together in a sequence for a song.

then save it to midi file. I was looking at Idrum drum machine
software.

also i need to know what program i can then use that has good
acoustic drum samples to assign to this midi file. I was looking at
fxpansion BFD.

and i need to add a groove or some human feel after the fact...

need someones' practical experence on this....

don't want to hear about getting a real drumset and real drummer...
i live in the boonies - no drummers out here...

Cubase does it. The magazine "Computer Music" used to have a drummer
section, which gave advice on using a drum editor. The magazine also has
software on its cover CD, so you might find a drum editor for free, or
evaluation versons..

It's the sound card that oes this, though you can also load sounds in
software ("soundfonts").

Hi Natalie,

It's kind of off-topic from the drum machine post that started this,
but I can't agree with your comment that soundfonts don't sound very
good. While I don't remember the particulars, the format allows some
very good sounding samples (I know 44.1K 16-bit is commonplace now),
and many sound extremely good. Also, soundfonts are not limited to use
by Creative sound cards. Many software products load and playback
soundfonts, so they are no longer limited to the size of a sound card's
internal memory. VSampler is one product that supports them
extensively, Reality did several years ago, I'm sure there are many,
many others.

I realize that early soundfonts were small and low-quality, but the
times have changed drastically.

Pro & semi-pro soundcards haven't bothered doing this for years now.
Disk-based software samplers like Gigastudio, Kontakt etc have much larger
samples than can fit on any soundcard. They work within your sequencer.
There used to be a free version of Sampletank with good drum sounds. Good,
free legal drum samples are available off the net.

BTW, 'soundfonts' is a term used by Creative for their samples. They don't
sound very good.

I like the drum editor in Logic myself.

I'd have to say Reason is a good program for this.
There are loads of ways to make up drum stuff.
Samplers, step sequencers, any you can export audio or midi.
