I have a discrete sound card, Creative ZxR - 24bit/192khz, and I was hoping to get the best of it by picking a good set of speakers, actually trying make a 2.1 or maybe even a 5.1 system later depending of which I go for.

So the options I got here are:

Pioneer sp-bs22(passive bookshelf speaker) & 8mk2(active subwoofer) - it a part of a 5.1 set
Behringer MS-40 (active near field multimedia speaker - spdif connection 24bit/192khz) & OSD Audio SP-88 (dual - 8') or SP-12 (single 12') (both active subwoofer - no spdif connection)
Yamaha HS8 (active near field monitor speaker) & HS8s (active subwoofer)

Other things to consider is that I don't have an audio interface and It's rather a small room(10ftx13ft - 3mx4m).

Obviously the Yamaha set is the most expensive one, but all I want is to listen to music and that's all, movies and games are not my top priorities, so maybe picking this one would be a little over the top? And also I'm planning to go for audio technica ath-m70x for a better experience?.

So could you guys give some advice or any suggestions?

I would suggest you consider the Paradigm A2
http://www.paradigm.com/products-current/model=a2/page=overview
or these for a 2.1
http://www.paradigm.com/products-current/series=millenia/model=millenia-ct-2/page=overview
Better sounding for music than any of the other combos you suggest. Pro monitor speakers can be a bit fatiguing to listen for longer periods and tend to need more volume to offer detail. The Paradigms are more linear (sound good low or loud). More of an audiophile speaker. Find a local dealer and listen yourself.

Thank you for your answer.

But it seems that I couldn't find any Paradigm reseller nearby so that I could check myself, and also for the above picks.

That why I'm relying on those that have tried or own those so they can help me narrow down the list.

As a matter of fact I did narrow down to these 2 models.

Yamaha HS8 & HS8s (studio monitor set)
Roland CM-220 (2.1 multipurpose set)

Pioneer is out because it is a passive speaker, so I suppose I'm gonna need a receiver or something to power those although the sub is an active one and could power those passive speakers but its performance limitations (reviews) made me look somewhere else.
Behringer is out due to overall complaints over hissing and performance lack of bass - that is to be expected, muddy mids, also there are some restrictions about authorised repair services in my country.

Anyone could recommend any of these 2, yamaha or roland?
Or share any experience on these?

And I don't need to fill my room with music, just enough to listen and I'll be seating most of the time by the computer so the nearfield option. And no I won't be mixing or recording anything.
