Moved into a home with an existing multiroom single source wired speak solution. All 8 rooms have wired volume control knob in that room. All of the speakers are wired back to the cabinet with the audio equipment.

Very simple..
- AVR connected to Harmon Kardon PA2000 connected to two Russound 4-speak control units.

Connected to AVR is TV & CD player.

So all rooms play the same source.

What I want....
- The ability to play different sources in different rooms.
- Still want to be able to play my CDs
- I want the ability to play stored music from a central hard disk
- I want the ability to play spotify
- i want the ability to play music from Cox cable channels

- also the plan is to move off COX to a service to Roko etc.

- like to control it from an Iphone/Ipad...

I'm assuming volume is still controlled by those knobs; but maybe that can be controlled by remote application.

Thanks for the help.

Solution
Sonos is the best solution to what you want to do.
A Sonos ConnectAmp will create a zone that will play 4 speakers.
A Sonos Connect would act as a source for the existing AVR.
These have inputs so you could connect a CD player but it makes more sense to rip you CDs as lossless files and play them from the NAS. You could connect the audio out from your cable box but I suspect that given the number of free streaming services that work through the Sonos App you may not use Cox for music for long.
Sonos also integrates directly inside the Spotify app if you prefer.
Free control apps for iOS, Android, Windows, MAC, and Kindle.
You could upgrade the system in stages.
