On the topic of vertical lines:

Muse/Hi-Vision is also known as a 1035i Format. This can easily be
verified as with Muse-Discs played back the display used will switch
to the input that is normally used for 1080i sources, but at the same
time there will be thin black bars on the top and bottom of the
picture even for a 16:9 picture source. This is what constitutes the
45 lines difference to the 1080i picture. To restore the intended 16:9
aspect ratio of the picture one would ideally increase the height of
the Muse-/Hi-Vision picture by 4.3%.

Muse is not just a high resolution laserdisc format, both the
manufacturing process and the packaging of the discs where much more
elaborate than contemporary LD's, everybody who has held a Muse movie
transfer in his hands can attest to the superior finish and packaging
of the Muse discs. This will probably be the most elitist consumer
format for movies for some time to come and may as well never be
surpassed in that regard.

about the analog /digital sound output:

There are AV-processors from Lexicon that would allow to process the
analog multichannel sound that can be found on most Muse-discs.
As Nicolas pointed out there is also the possibility to connect some
Muse decoders with 2 digital outputs for both L/R and C/S channels to
a Receiver with the corresponding input.

Nicolas, are there still any more recent Receiver/Amplifier/AV
processors that accept the two digital inputs from a HV-MD2 Muse
decoder ?

I don't have these bars, i guess my display (analog HDTV) is slightly
overscanning.

I don't know of any receiver or processor that could handle these two
digital outputs. All the decoder docs show examples where two separate
amps are used, one for each digital output. The Lexicon processors you
mention, as well as an early Pioneer model, are the closest thing i
know of.
