Hooking a new tv to an old receiver and speaker system

I just purchased a new led LG TV which I want to hook up to my wired speaker system which goes to an old Onkyo Receiver. The Receiver has two audio optic jacks. Will the TV work by connecting the optical audio out to the old receiver? Thanks for any advice on how to make the old receiver work with this new TV

Should do, but you may need to tell it to do so in the settings.

I've also had bad results with an LG TV deciding to reset the sound settings every month or two...
