How can I get my Bose headphone MIC to work with my desktop computer?

I recently bought this headphone" http/www.bestbuy.com/site/bose-soundtrue-on-ear-headphones-black/4642053.p?id=1219100305664&skuId=4642053

I wanted to use this headphone to play games like cs go, specifically, using the mic. It has a mic BUILT IN. For some reason, I cannot get the mic to work because I plugged it into my rear panel microphone jack and it says under recording, "Microphone, Realtek High Definition Audio, and Default Device." However, my mic does not work. If I plug it in the front panel, it says FrontMic and default device but doesn't work either. Did I place one of the HD audio cables or something in the wrong place on my motherboard? I did use RealTek Audio manager to try to fix it and I still cannot get this headphone to work.

To sum it up, I can HEAR sound when I plug it into both headphone jacks (rear and front), but I CANNOT use the mic when I plug it in both microphone jacks (front and rear). I checked it and according to my mobo, it is at the correct spot. Thanks for the help...

The microphone function is designed for a mobile phone in conjunction with the in-line on/off remote switch which has no effect on a laptop or PC microphone jack. Not compatible with laptop or PC as far as the mic is concerned.

You need a headset designed for a PC. Bose don't make those.

i had the same issue, Since Bose headphone cable is detachable, I purchased a separate audio cable with no mic $10 from Bose website and i switch it if i want to use it with my Sony PC.

Can't you use a splitter like this one?

I'm getting the SoundTrue II this week, I can comment about it once I have them.

I have the same situation. I got this https/www.amazon.in/gp/product/B00QWR792W/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and tried getting my QC 35's mic to work... doesn't seem to work.
Not sure if it's a hardware issue or if trouble shooting will solve it.

Update: I tried using a TRRS adapter (linked above) that splits the cable into a desktop mic/headphone cable, but that didn't work. The QC35 has an inbuilt mic on the headset and not in the cable (like QC25 ... on which the adapter 'might' work).
I am now thinking of either getting a compatible cable with mic for the headset or connecting it via bluetooth to my desktop.

I was having the same issue with my qc25's and i bought a headphone/mic splitter like this (https/www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00Y4663GG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) which didnt work when plugging straight into my computer, but the mic and headphones did work when I used the usb adapter that came with my logitech g430 headset like this one: (https/www.amazon.com/LOGITECH-981-000536-surround-Gaming-Headset/dp/B00CQ35C1Q). I dont understand what the usb adapter is even for, but if you can find somewhere to buy one seperately it will work in conjunction with the cable splitter.

If you buy a USB Bluetooth dongle, you can pair the headphones wirelessly and you will maintain full function of the headset.

If you look at the cable included with the QC 35's, it actually has no mic function (1 strip instead of 2)

That is not entirely correct. It is fully possible to use any phone headset (iPhone or Android) with any PC, including both the speaker as well as the audio sound. But you need to connect it to the USB port and not to the 3.5mm audio out port. So, how how can that be done? Well you need a 3.5mm to USB DAC/ADC converter. And where can you get hold of that?
Well, that's the tricky part. No one in the industry seems to have taken any interest in making such a device - but wait, there is one solution: Jabra has released a Lync speaker pad, originally designed for Lync. It has an auxiliary 3.5mm port that fully support any mobile phone headset. As soon as you plug it in, the speaker is muted, so that no sound escapes into the room. And the DAC inside the unit is not at all bad, so the quality of FLAC and MP3 playback is quite good. And the good thing is that when your receive (or place) a call, the music is automatically reduced to a nice background level (heard only by you), and when you hang up, volume is restored.
So, yes - it can be done.
